The First National Meeting of Racial Justice in Early Mathematics is a 2-day event for educators, administrators, researchers, and community members who share a commitment to antiracist math education for young learners.
During this in-person event, to be held at the Erikson Institute (Chicago) on June 27 & 28, 2024, attendees will engage in critical reflection about problems and possibilities of practice that arise while teaching, learning, and conducting research on early math from a racial justice perspective.
Drawing on collaborative work over the past four years, the RJEM team will share an emerging framework for thinking about connections between racial justice and early math education. Our six 2023-2024 RJEM Teaching Fellows will also share their experiences during the fellowship year and provide brief reports of their inquiry projects.
There will be many opportunities to learn from one another. Teachers, researchers, administrators, caregivers, and community members are welcome to share their incredible work with the RJEM community. Please consider submitting a presentation proposal in of the following strands:
-
RJEM Talks: Anti-ractist practices or research that you have designed or implemented to address problems of practice.
-
Working group: Problems and possibilities of practice that you are grappling with and would like the support of the RJEM community to help you move forward.
The Call for Presentations can be found here.
A limited number of scholarships are available to cover the registration cost (U$75) for this meeting. To apply for financial support, please complete this form.
