Description

Participants will learn the importance of supporting young children developing healthy habits around digital media use. In this session, participants will learn about the latest data on young children’s media use and comprehension, and explore ways to implement media literacy education for young children. (1.5 PD hrs)

  • Recognize the importance of positive and appropriate early childhood experiences with media
  • Determine three ways to be a media mentor for media literacy
  • Utilize key questions to facilitate critically questioning and evaluating media with young children
  • Recognize misrepresentation and under-representations of race-ethnicities and differing abilities in children’s media

Jenna Herdzina, MS, is the Program Manager of the TEC Center at Erikson Institute and co-author of the Media Literacy in Early Childhood Report. As Program Manager, Jenna empowers early childhood educators to make informed decisions about the appropriate use of technology and media with young children.
